Monkey Applique Baby Quilt

Here is a cute little thing! I made this quilt as gift for my sweet nephew – who is about to turn 1!

I am entering it into The Sewing Loft Blogs September Sewing Month Gift Category.  This challenge has been a fun motivation for me to finish up a bunch of projects that have been lingering – I’ve been sick for the last few months, and I really miss sewing! Now that I’m feeling better I am ready to get some quilts out the door!

I used a juggling monkey because their grandfather likes to juggle.

The monkey is a copy of the monkey print on the back of the fabric – which is a basic print from Joann fabrics.

I was so sure about the monkey design, and I cranked all that out very quickly. Then I decided it wasn’t enough. I brought it into to my quilt guild meeting this month and asked for suggestions. Here is the picture from my quilt guild – it was a little boring. I thought about just cutting off some of the negative space, but they suggested adding a palm tree. Simple and genius.

So here is the final product! I’m happy to have it finished and will bring the quilt with me when we go to visit in October.
