Gingerbread Zombies

It's going to be a zombie Christmas!I’ve been drawing and re-drawing Gingerbread Zombies for the last several hours, and it’s filling me with tremendous joy. The final (for now?) project is on Etsy now!

All my life I’ve enjoyed drawing silly cartoon versions of things. At several points, I have tried to pretend that having fun equals actual artistic ability, and been promptly torn to bits. ย For example, a drawing professor once told me, “I actually really like how the bark on that tree turned out, though clearly that was an accident, since everything else you drew was awful.” And, of course, she was right! I can’t draw tree bark.

However, if all my drawing class assignments had involved cartoon gingerbread zombies, my professor would have been all like, “Holy crap, that’s hilarious!” and I’d be all like, “I KNOW, right??”

    Hey Dana,

I was happily suprised to find your blog this morning. I read every post over day after Christmas morning coffee. Nice surpise. ๐Ÿ™‚

Your blog & others have inspired me to start my own – I’ve been reading Adrienne Maree Brown’s (http://adriennemareebrown.net/blog/) for a while. And your’s inspired me to just do it & have some fun with it! Blog forthcoming, I’ll let you know when it’s live. ๐Ÿ˜‰

This post reminded me of my friend Dee who also goes by Diabetik (http://www.flickr.com/photos/diabetik/). She’s a street artist in DC that uses seasonal candies to create mock installations, wheat pastes, etc. My favorite is her “Meh, Yawn, Whatever” valentines candy hearts: http://www.flickr.com/photos/diabetik/4368772308/
