Derecho Rainbow Quilt

I’m almost done with the front of this, queen size rainbow quilt. I started the cutting for these swirling rainbows while our power was out from the derecho, so I figured it could be named that.

I used large paper leftover from facilitating strategy meetings to create my rainbow swirl templates.

And lots and lots of strips!

Hi Lynda, it’s a lot of improvisational piecing. I sewed together tapered strips and then cut my swirls out of the tapered strips. Some of the larger ones I pieced as I went; I used large paper to get an idea of the shape I wanted for the swirls and then sewed them together accordingly. It really wasn’t that lengthy of a process, believe it or not!

I would love to know how to do this. Did you sew the strips together then cut out the swirls or are the swirls pieced please?? Sorry – not very good patchworker!!!!!! LIZ
